Designed by Roman Vrtiška and Jan Knotek (Czech Republic) Two very different design perspectives produced a very integrated result.

Roman is highly visual and instinctively interpretive. Living in Prague – a city where funky juice bars stand next to gothic cathedrals – he is adept at communicating a natural sense of juxtaposition through his work.

Jan takes a very direct approach to his work. His is the discipline of technical design, where the goal of effortless functionality is the result of a passionate search for simplicity. As he will tell you, it is hardly ever “simple.”

Roman designed Teroforma’s Ekke Carafe & Tumbler while Jan Knotek designed our Ekke and Oyyo mouthblown, non-lead crystal tumbler series.

Made at Kvêtná Glassworks (Czech Republic) If anyone is blowing glass of any significance anywhere in Europe, chances are our friend Tugo Kladnik knows about it.

Tugo has been around glass makers his whole life and as we head from Vienna toward old Moravia, he explains “You have to know who’s best at what. For really traditional technique – beautiful glass with superb color – it’s Kvêtná. They are good. Very good.”

We arrive at the Café Hotel Kaunic in the village of Uherský Brod with no reservations. Tugo seems unfazed. “The owner’s a good person. She’ll have rooms for us...Tomorrow we go see Kvêtná.”

Kvêtná Glassworks makes Teroforma’s Avva Lens, Ekke and Oyyo mouthblown, non-lead crystal series.
